RULES AND RIGHTS:
-
Have fun in a cooperative, collaborative environment.
-
Experiment, build, create, and help see where we can take this.
-
Rights to all media -- the actual media created (video, audio, web pages, images, etc.) -- rest with the creators, according to the terms of use of any platform(s) on which the media is posted. Terms among individual creators is for them to decide.
-
Media posted publicly can and will be shared according to the terms of that platform according to the terms of current common practice and the principles of fair use. (In plain language, if you put your media up publicly, we'll share it around from MediaThon properties such as web pages and social media and give credit to the creators as best we can.)
-
There is no ownership of any “idea,” only the specific media, code, etc., that has been created. You own the actual video, audio, template, app, etc. You don’t own the idea. (In plain language: Ideas generally can't be owned. If you create a video and share it on YouTube, or write a story and post it to the Web, and someone makes a video or writes a story along the same lines, it's pretty hard to argue that you own what they have created.)
-
Where a prize or award is given and accepted, in exchange for said prize, rights may be jointly shared by MediaThon and its designees (such as any sponsor) and the creators, in perpetuity and on all platforms.
-
Terms involving third parties will rest outside the control of MediaThon. (Again, in plain language: If someone wants to put your media in a commercial, their movie, etc., that's up to you to negotiate. Likewise, if they want to hire you to develop it further. We may be able to facilitate, but can't guarantee we can.)
-
Have fun in a cooperative, collaborative environment. (Yeah, we already said this, but hey, we mean it.)
